10.10.2018

Münchener Hypothekenbank eG (MünchenerHyp) is rated internationally as one of the Pfandbrief banks that operates in a particularly sustainable manner.

In its most recent rating report ISS-oekom raised MünchenerHyp’s sustainability rating from C+ to B-. This upgrade means that the cooperative property financer is once again one of the top three rated institutions in the category “Financials/Mortgage & Public Sector Finance”. In addition, the rating agency also confirmed MünchenerHyp’s “Prime Status”.

According to ISS-oekom, the Bank’s higher rating was primarily due to its personnel policy and especially its measures to enhance the work-life balance of its employees and their healthcare, along with further developments taken in the governance of the Bank. The rating agency recognised these improvements with a “Social and Governance Rating“ of B. Furthermore, ISS-oekom expressly noted that MünchenerHyp had anchored sustainability in its core business including, in particular, sustainable financing offers – the Green Loan and the Family Loan – as well as obtaining sustainable refinancing via the Bank’s ESG Pfandbrief. In total, these factors led to an “Environmental Rating“ of B-.

“We are committed to being a pioneer in the field of sustainable property financing, that is also refinanced on a sustainable basis. We are pleased that ISS-oekom has honoured our efforts so favourably”, said Dr. Louis Hagen, Chairman of the Münchener Hypothekenbank‘s Board of Management.

ISS-oekom is one of the leading international agencies providing sustainability ratings. The agency rates 49 banks around the world in the category of “Financials/Mortgage & Public Sector Finance”. The best rating in this category is B-.
